On most trains you are limited by what you can easily carry and board and luggage is transported from trains on a self-service basis. Almost every major station has storage lockers or a luggage checking service for just about $5 a day, you can leave your luggage. People traveling light can fit two backpacks into one locker, cutting storage costs in half! In some security-conscious train stations, lockers are no longer in use, and travelers must check their bags at a luggage-deposit desk — often after going through an airport-type security check. This service can cost up to $10 per bag.
Usually there are no weight limitations on baggage, except on high-speed trains or some of the special hotel trains. On the Eurostar, Thalys and TGV, each passenger may take along 2 large pieces of luggage and a single piece of hand luggage.

A lot of the trains have an over-head storage rack along with luggage areas at the rear of the train car. Baggage is the sole responsibility of the traveler as the railroads will assume no responsibility in case of loss or theft. We advise you to always keep an eye on your luggage in the trains and on the platforms. In night trains it is normally possible to lock your cabin.
Many train stations have luggage lockers (example in Austria) and/or a left luggage facility. Bigger stations have luggage carts/trolleys on the platforms, for which you sometimes have to pay a small deposit.
