I absolutely love this video of a snow clad Germany and a steam train passing through town. I know it’s summer right now, but the magical feel of a steam train ride through the snow here is a must travel one day. This is probably the best departure of a steam train from drei annen hohne, with some heavy horn blasts and a car-train horn.

Europe is known for its inexpensive train travel network. It has many different rail passes to many different countries on the continent. If you are planning a vast trip of Europe, you can purchase a Eurail which is a first class pass valid for one or several weeks which is quite cheap. If you just want to visit parts of the continent, the inexpensive selection is Scanrail or the Balkan Flexipass.

A Eurail pass is highly recommended for traveling cheap across Europe. I recommend you do that for a trip in Central Europe, specially in France, Austria, Switzerland, and some of the beautiful Eastern Europe. For the UK it would be also useful and probably the only two places where it does not work the best is in Southern Europe and in Scandinavia, basically because you’ve got sea in the middle and train, at least until the day of writing, can’t swim.

For all sorts of Eurail coupons, deals and savers, I recommend taking a look at the Rail Europe website for quick and easy booking. . This guys coordinate the rail passes for people who comes from outside Europe. If you are European, take a look at Interrail and, at least at today’s date of writing, check places that sell them in the UK, as the pound has fallen terribly during the last months and you can get great bargains when changing to your currency.
